As a Visionary Partner of the Business Development Board of the Palm Beaches, Wafer World, Inc. represents the leadership and innovation shaping the region’s business community. For this edition of the BDB’s Visionary Partner Q&A, we sat down with Sean Quinn, Founder of Wafer World, to learn more about the company, his perspective on doing business in Palm Beach County, and what he sees ahead.
What’s one project your team is working on right now that you’re excited to share?
We are expanding Wafer World’s semiconductor wafer reclaim and polishing capacity at our West Palm Beach facility following the integration of Micro Reclaim Technologies. The project brings specialized capabilities for silicon carbide, gallium nitride, and sapphire together with our established expertise in gallium arsenide and indium phosphide, all under one roof. This expansion matters because reclaiming high-value semiconductor substrates allows manufacturers to reuse qualified wafers, reduce material waste, lower costs, and lessen dependence on constrained supplies of critical materials. By broadening our technical capabilities and scaling production, we are better positioned to support customers in aerospace, defense, automotive, biomedical, telecommunications, MEMS, chemical, and energy markets with reliable, U.S.-based reclaim and polishing services.
What excites you most about where Palm Beach County’s economy is headed?
What excites me most is how Palm Beach County has evolved into a more diverse, year-round economy with a growing base of advanced manufacturing and technology-driven businesses. When I founded Wafer World in 1997, the region was not widely recognized as a high-tech manufacturing center. Since then, I have watched it attract stronger research institutions, skilled professionals, corporate investment, and companies in aerospace, life sciences, engineering, and other innovation-led industries. That momentum creates opportunities for local manufacturers to expand, hire, invest in new capabilities, and build stronger partnerships across the business community. Palm Beach County is developing the talent, infrastructure, and entrepreneurial energy needed to compete nationally, and I am encouraged by the role companies like ours can play in supporting that continued growth.
What advice would you give a company considering a move to Palm Beach County?
My advice is simple: come prepared to lead. Palm Beach County is building a world-class business community, and companies considering a move here should bring a clear vision, a strong value proposition, and the ambition to set the standard in their industry. The county is looking for organizations that will create high-quality jobs, invest for the long term, and contribute meaningfully to the community—not those satisfied with second place. Before relocating, study the local talent base, engage the Business Development Board early, and build a practical plan for facilities, hiring, workforce development, and strategic partnerships. Palm Beach County offers exceptional opportunity, but success here requires preparation, commitment, and a willingness to compete at the highest level. Companies that embrace that mindset can thrive while helping make Palm Beach County one of the best places in the world to do business.
